There's a weather warning for Sunday for "extreme heat" in the South East.

It's both delightful and mildly relieving, even if for a short while. I fully endorse this eating of ice cream.

We love you Wednesday, we do! We love you Wednesday, we do! We love you Wedne.....

Where did you get that forecast from, Genovese? Metoffice for my area still showing no higher than 29 on Monday. I'm still left wondering where this 40+ temp is going to occur

Seems so, lucky buggers! A quick look at forecasts for Plymouth, Torquay and Exeter show regular/comfortable temps.

Looking on a map... I didn't know they were so close together! Bit pointless looking at each individually. They were the first few places i could think of Westward.

Yeah, those are directly West of me (and further West than Bristol). I did look for forecasts in Bristol and Cardiff, too.

23.8 in my lounge already. All windows left open over night (except bedroom).

The blind closing during the day thing is working to a small degree though.

^^ Put some blinds in perhaps? If you're allowed. Mind you, is that cat proof enough.. ? Not really a quick fix anyway, unless you can do it yourself, have the funds, are allowed to do it.

Have you tried windows open at night and restricting the cat to the bedroom and then closing them when you're awake?

Yeah, I've had a look at quite a few. Ones's like the picture buiscuits has posted but i'm not sure how sturdy they are. He sometimes jumps up at the window if a bird perches. Someone at the sanctuary has suggested making a frame and stapling some of that mesh stuff buiscuits has posted to it, then having some clasps or whatever fitted to the window to hold it in place. Sounds very involved tho... I'd need a handyman.

Yeah he's too crafty for blinds

Yeah I've tried opening windows when he's sleeping in another room. Usually in the morning he sleeps in my bedroom and so as long as i'm here I can open the living room and bathroom window. However....
He's not moving from the living room currently (think cause I've got a big fan on the go - doing bugger all!). Also often his spidey senses are alerted and he just scrathches at the door till I get up and let him through (and have to shut all the windows again). At night he'd probably want through at some point to the living room, esp around dawn.

I have as well forgot on one occassion after letting him out the bedroom to check the bathroom door was shut whilst the window was still open. I suddenly had a instinct moment, leapt up to find him on the outside ledge of the window he turned round to greet me and promptly fell off . I'm on the 2nd floor. I ran down and found him quite quickly - he was fine - infact happily came running to me with an excited hello! but i'm paroniod now about windows. Esp as the bedroom door doesn't always shut properly.

I don't want to whinge but...no, actually, that's a lie, I do want to whinge.
F*** me that heat was unbearable last night. Thankfully it's a bit cooler now, but I'm dreading the weekend. I wonder if we'll hit 100 on Monday or Tuesday? I'm in Essex, so it's going to be awful here. Could we break the record? We've never hit 40 degrees in the UK.

^^^ Mm, you've got a crafty one there. You've reminded me of the scratching at the door thing - that shits annoying! With all the will in the world you can't ignore that and you have to let them through. Dogs know that trick too.

Well, i'm sure there's a way. Hopefully inexpensive and easily applied
