@Finlay - Well done you on saving up for a deposit, that's a wonderful achievement, and I wish you many years of good health and happiness in your very own home

Just been watching a repeat of Dear John from the 1980s. I vaguely remember this being on when I was a kid. The last series ended in 1987, a year before I started at my horrible comprehensive, so I would have been around nine or ten.

I have a weird affection for old British comedies. Most of them aren't all that funny (certainly not compared to something like Alan Partridge or The Office or Peep Show), but I find them weirdly comforting – Steptoe and Son, Hancock's Half Hour, The Good Life...they're like old friends.

What are your favourite's crafty elf?

I look forward to nobody pretending to give a flying fig about the queen again.
It's quite ridiculous when every business has Jubilee-related signs up and you know 99% of them are just trying to milk it for money. Even though it puts people like me off seeing this blatant marketing barrel-scraping.

At least we can have some quiet for a while after until one of the royals farts, kicks the bucket or squeezes out another backup monarch.

Here are a list of some of my favourites:

Nearest & Dearest,
On The Buses,
Are You Being Served?
Steptoe & Son,
Romany Jones,
That's My Boy,
In Loving Memory,
The Rag Trade,
Sorry!,
Hi-De-Hi,
You Rang M'Lord,
Fresh Fields,
George & Mildred,
You're Only Young Twice,
Home To Roost,
For The Love Of Ada,
Spring & Autumn

To name but a few. I do love a big old non PC giggle to get me out of myself
Are You Being Served is great - really underrated. And Steptoe and Son is like an old friend.

How about the Carry Ons? Carry On Up the Kyber is surprisingly funny. There is a scene in which private widdle (the brilliant Charles Hawtrey) hides a hot water bottle up his kilt and his sergeant discovers it. Cracks me up every time.

I’m looking forward to hopefully putting up my cold frame and starting some seeds off, the only problem is all I do lately is sit on the floor in my bedroom, which is an absolute tip you can just about get to the bed my rowers still in the box and nothing seems to get done.

The peak of the Perseid Meteor shower on 12th August.

It coincides with a super moon (the last super moon of the year).

Saturn will also be more visible.

what a treat!

Well, I saw a few meteors but the super moon made it tricky to see any more. Hopefully next year the sky is just as clear and the moon isn't so super. I've been ever so tired from a few nights of staying up late to do some star gazing.

God I'm looking forward to Friday.
I was laid off work in November, haven't even had a single interview in the time since and Universal Credit barely covers the rent and I've been left with £50 for groceries for the month.
It's been really poopy but on Friday I'll have a little more money and I'll finally be able to have a planned budget.

Gosh that sounds pretty pathetic but it's something I genuinely am looking forward to

Lunar new year on Sunday - which will mean standing around in the freezing cold in order to watch an underwhelming parade, buying random tat, and then trying to get a table in any restaurant in a frenzied China Town. If I'm lucky, I'll get to see a dragon shred a cabbage.

I can't wait!
