^^ Congrats, Gosties, that's quite some going. I struggle with any sort of consistency over the summer period too.

^ Nice one, twosocks - how're you going with that?

Does anyone know the proper technique for a squat? I've started a light weights routine with a bar bell which includes squats. I'm squating almost completely down so my heel is nearly touching back thigh ... is that correct or does it even matter?

You're supposed to at least as deep to make your thighs parallel with the ground.

But the further you go, the harder it is. So some people consider "ass to the grass" to be a true squat, like what you are doing.

But I think as long as your upper legs go as far as parallel with the ground, you're good!

Although some people do partial squats, which are very shallow, but that can be for other reasons, like rehab, working other muscle groups etc.

Thanks for the input, Tonkin.

I suppose any squatting motion is a squat but knowing what not to do was what i was really getting at. When i get to the heel to back thigh point - the max range - there's a 'gristly' sound in my knees, which makes me wonder whether i'm doing more harm than good.

That doesn't sound totally good!

Is there any pain?

My knees make all kinds of sounds when I squat, or move in general sometimes, but they don't often hurt.

No, no pain at all. It's not a loud sound - i doubt anyone would notice it. Nothing seems to be troubled in the motion.

Meh

Could be dehydration, as Nanuq says...

Between 25-54 km on my exercise bike per day. Each session set as 24-27 km.
With most days two sessions of around 40-45 minutes each.
It's not a Peloton which I can afford but have better things to spend £2,000 + on.

I've managed to drop five stone in a two year period now it's just maintainance.
25,591 Miles (41,764 km) in the period since I began logging it in July 2017.
293 hrs and 10,597 km this year to this point.

I just try and average over the whole month at least an hour day sometimes more/less.

RE:- Rocket Spud

I had problems with my knee due to the weight gain so therefore some exertion combats that therefore motivation not an issue.
I've had down periods for various reasons during this due to breaking exercise cycles flywheels and an accident (fractured hip socket) that meant that I could not exercise for three months.

Does anyone have any resources for core building exercises? Absolute beginner kind of stuff. Imagine I’m Mr Blobby and I need to build strength.

Weighted chin ups and farmers carry are my favourite things to do. Did both this morning and obliterated my grip. Love it.
