A thread for those cases where social anxiety has been shown in fiction


The Big Bang Theory, the character Lucy who Raj dates for a while had crippling social anxiety.

Boo Radley in To Kill a Mockingbird. Well he seems to be socially anxious, maybe also on the spectrum.

^ Jane Austen was very good at writing characters with so many different personality types and quirks. What were the sisters called......Jane, Elizabeth, Kitty, Lydia and Mary?

There was a recent adaptation where they suggested Beth had social anxiety.
I see Mary Bennet as perhaps being autistic rather than socially anxious, although my recollections may not be quite accurate.
