I think that it’s like selflessness can’t exist without selfishness. If we care about anything, we have to be selfish about that thing to an extent or what we get from that thing.

I've not but it seems popular with some.

Quote:
Are you waiting on something right now?

Maybe it’s the "right" moment? Or the "right" opportunity? For many people, they’re waiting until they "feel ready" to take the next step, or, to try something new.

Sound familiar? A lot of us are very good at waiting.

Sometimes we’ll even substitute impressive sounding words for waiting. We might say that we’re researching variables. Or, that we’re assimilating data. We might even say that we’re contemplating options.

Those all sound good, right? They sound smart and reasonable. And, they might be. Because sometimes it’s necessary to research and assimilate and contemplate.

But how many times do we say that we’re doing those productive-sounding things, when what we’re really doing is being afraid? Afraid of the taking the next step. Afraid that we’re not good enough to do what we really want to. Afraid of failing.

All of which reminds me of the famous quote from the English poet Alfred Lord Tennyson: "Tis better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all…"

Tennyson’s quote points out that life is risky. And the pursuit of meaningful things, such as love, is riskier still.

But risk is the necessary currency for a life that provides purpose and meaning.

So, if you still need to research, or assimilate or contemplate, go right ahead.

But, if you’ve actually been hiding behind those things, then commit to taking some action.

So you finally can start moving in the direction of your destiny.

On your side,
- Mike
An email I got from Mike Gillette, a self help and fitness guru. I thought it so good I posted it here.

I don’t think this is considered self help but I guess it’s good advice. Actually makes me feel encouraged to explore career feels I might be interested in as it puts less pressure in being good at them.

5 Problems With the Self-Help Industry

The first point is something I've thought for a while. I'm definitely a "bad to ok" person and I've felt for ages that most self help is targeted much more towards "ok to great" people. All the success stories I read seem to be from people who fall into to the latter category. I go through phases of becoming obsessed with reading different self help material and it always makes me feel like shit.

A lot of the self-help that focuses on developing social skills seems to be particularly bad. All those alpha male grindset YouTube videos that supposedly teach you how to be more charismatic etc. should be avoided like the plague, they're absolute poison.

Blushing. This has always been a symptom for me. I haven't found any self help material that helps.

A book I find interesting is Complex PTSD, from surviving to thriving, by Pete Walker. (for survivors of childhood abuse and neglect)

I can link you to an EFT video on blushing.

I have read some of Pete Walker's book you mentioned. How did you find it links to social anxiety? Did you find it useful for SA?

A book has just come out called "The Vagus Nerve Reset: train your body to heal stress, trauma and anxiety" by Anna Ferguson which looks interesting.

She has an Instagram page where she is known as Anna the anxiety coach -

I was constantly called selfish by my (insert diagnosis) parents. In truth, any healthy self interest or self compassion was attempted to be beaten out of me.
