I've got a brilliant tip for this.
Avoid tight trousers/belts. Your lives will be changed. |

^ This is true. I wore jeans the other day and was forever needing a wee. I always wear dresses or skirts. It's like my body has forgotten how to be in trousers.

I don't like wearing jeans anymore esp zip/buttoned. Elasticated is the future. Let us free our large intestines. |

Re: The IBS Thread
Beware chamomile tea! I used to drink a few cups of this every morning. Then I read that it was high in fructans, which can cause IBS. Have stopped drinking it, also cut down a bit on what I was having for breakfast (porridge - I still eat it, but not a big bowl - oats too contain fructans), and have been a lot better.

Re: The IBS Thread
^ that's excellent that you've found your IBS triggers. It's always the stuff you love!
I've been pizza free for some time now. I had one bout of it but I think that was anxiety related. |

Re: The IBS Thread
Yes, I've put up with IBS for a long time, never realised a herb tea might be a problem. I'm sorry you can't have pizza, perhaps it's the bread part that causes problems.

Re: The IBS Thread
This ad keeps popping up on Instagram about IBS and a theory about IBS being a result of miscommunication between the gut and the brain as part of flight, fight, freeze and whatever the other one is.
That is starting to make a little bit of sense because I used to be sick when I was anxious because I would force myself do the thing I was anxious about and so I would be sick. Anyway after some years I managed to learn how to intercept that from happening whilst still doing the things I was anxious about. I do find IBS flares up at the times when I'm feeling stressed or anxious. Is that the same for the other IBSers of sauk? |

Re: The IBS Thread
It seems more random than that for me, it's not always when I'm feeling stressed.

Re: The IBS Thread
Yeah - the pizza trigger doesn't fit the criteria for me. Unless I have a phobia of pizza that i didn't realise I had .
The theory is that certain foods can activate the same system because the gut sends the wrong messages to the brain. The idea is that treatment can help stop it activating. I'll have to look up some research papers. |

Re: The IBS Thread
I would agree with this, I think a lot of the symptoms are linked to the brain and gut.
When I went to see a therapist, she said she saw I lot of people from the IBS clinic. Sent from my SM-A530F using Tapatalk |

I go everywhere prepared, I usually take a small packet of tissues, andrex wipes, it makes me feel slightly better being prepared as sometimes there is no toilet roll, shocking! Sent from my SM-A530F using Tapatalk |

Re: The IBS Thread
A little group was talking at work today about how they never go for a work poo, and how objectionable they found it, even that it was a bad thing to do at work. I couldn't really believe what they were saying. Everyone needs to park their breakfast and it can't always be put off by skillful internal constriction. People have to lay cable and it's shouldn't be shameful, even if it stinks. Add in IBS, and we just need to shit. I feel like I actually need to leave the building to spray mayhem now and tbh, it's demeaning.
The "Can't Wait" card for Ulcerative Colitis and Crohn's sufferers never seemed to take off. Shitting is shamed, sadly. |

It's funny how every day bodily functions that everyone does can be so taboo! Also I love VIPoo spray - it's a nose saver. |
