How would you feel if you had no fear?
Feel like that.
How would you behave toward other people
if you realized their powerlessness to hurt you?
Behave like that.

How would your react to so-called misfortune
if you saw its inability to bother you?
React like that.

How would you think toward yourself
if you knew you were really all right?
Think like that.

Desiderata

Go placidly amid the noise and haste,
and remember what peace there may be in silence.
As far as possible without surrender
be on good terms with all persons.
Speak your truth quietly and clearly;
and listen to others,
even the dull and the ignorant;
they too have their story.

Avoid loud and aggressive persons,
they are vexations to the spirit.
If you compare yourself with others,
you may become vain and bitter;
for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.
Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.

Keep interested in your own career, however humble;
it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.
Exercise caution in your business affairs;
for the world is full of trickery.
But let this not blind you to what virtue there is;
many persons strive for high ideals;
and everywhere life is full of heroism.

Be yourself.
Especially, do not feign affection.
Neither be cynical about love;
for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment
it is as perennial as the grass.

Take kindly the counsel of the years,
gracefully surrendering the things of youth.
Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune.
But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings.
Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.
Beyond a wholesome discipline,
be gentle with yourself.

You are a child of the universe,
no less than the trees and the stars;
you have a right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you,
no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.

Therefore be at peace with God,
whatever you conceive Him to be,
and whatever your labors and aspirations,
in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul.

With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams,
it is still a beautiful world.
Be cheerful.
Strive to be happy.

Max Ehrmann, Desiderat

Some of my favourites;

Keep your hopes high and your expectations low

No matter how far you're gone down a wrong path, turn back

I may not have been where i intended to go, but I think I ended up where I need to be (Or any other Douglas Adams quote really)

I just have one of those faces. People come up to me and say, "What's wrong?" "Nothing." "Well, it takes more energy to frown than it does to smile." "Yeah, you know it takes more energy to point that out than it does to leave me alone?" (And pretty much all of what Bill Hicks ever said)

Don***8217;t let anyone tell you that you***8217;ve got to give in,
Cos you can make a difference, you can change everything,
Just let your dreams be your pilot, your imagination your fuel,
Tear up the book and write your own damn rules,
Use all that heart, hope and soul that you***8217;ve got,
And the love and the rage that you feel in your gut,
And realise that the other world that you***8217;re always looking for,
Lies right here in front of us, just outside this door,
And it***8217;s up to you to go out there and paint the canvas,
After all, you were put on the earth to do this,

Hmm...I'm not really posting specific quotes but the science videos starring Carl Sagan called 'symphony of science' which you can find on youtube really do give you a different perpective on life...and how tiny our problems should be. Helped me picture things better...

I'm sure this post will pass many people by, but if anyone takes a look, they are quite thought provoking.

Think of the totality of all Being, and what a mite of it is yours; think of all time, and the brief fleeting instant of it that is allotted to yourself; think of destiny, and how puny a part of it you are.

This is designed to be recalled at the moment anybody gives me unfair criticism or anger. You may recognise it as my reply to the evil emperor Ming in my signature below. It will come into my mind when the abovementioned criticism or anger is directed at me and instead of looking like the proverbial rabbit in the headlights, I will smile, and deflect the sentiment away so I remain untroubled by it.
