Default How often do you beat yourself up?

I'm afraid to monitor this, because the results would be too confronting. On a bad day maybe 100 negative put downs.eg "you idiot..why weren't you born a woman?"..."what a loser voice"...."no balls"....."speak up you moron". On a good day, at least 5 to 10.

I know we should replace these with positive life-affirming self-talks like.."I am doing well, I am a winner"..but it just feels a bit corny...not quite right.

Oh have tried meditation with mixed results. It's not for everyone is it.

I feel your pain, I get the same whenever I'm in a conversation or after if I feel I let myself down in the conversation, I try to counter the negative thoughts with positive one. Its tough, be strong brother!

I beat myself up countless time every single day. I am now at the point where I will actively hunt out negatives in potentially positive situations as I hate myself so much

thanks for responding. In retrospect a dire choice of thread topic. But at least our awareness of how often we talk negatively to ourselves will reduce the effect I think.

I have self defeating thoughts going round in my mind all the time like a cycle of them.
Mostly thoughts reinforcing everything people have said to me when theyve tried putting me down. Everyone in my life has done it so i find it difficult to get rid of the thoughts.
Im aware of these thougths and that they are unhealthy for me but i still keep hating myself. and if anyone i care about annoys me i tend to take any anger i get out on myself rather than them. i can say positive things to other people im just not used to saying positive things about myself..i dont think im worth it

Best to disagree with those people Fluppy.
Give yourself a vacation from your thoughts now and then.
Just say to yourself "No I'm not listening. This is ME time!"

I can imagine..." I really am hopeless. How did I get this job? I don't deserve it"

Yes you do deserve it. You probably deserve even better.

Pretty much around the clock, it would be weird if I wasn't thinking about what a loser I am, although I'm not exactly exaggerating either, I do have no friends, have never had a girlfriend and have a shit job, these are facts. Hard to think of positives when there aren't any.

All the time. Sometimes it can go round in circles, I'll beat myself up and then I'll be like 'don't be so silly' and then I'll go back to beating myself up.

If that's you in the avatar, you look OK to me.

Maybe you can concentrate on what a loser someone else is, so you give yourself a break!

If we just stopped now and then and realised how crazy we are to continue in this masochistic endeavour.
Find an all-consuming hobby like playing an instrument. Don't give yourself time to think, to comment, to judge your own performance about anything.

It's like..."Hang on, I was distracted there for a minute...now back to the self-bashing!"

A mere spectator...that describes a lot of people including myself.....it's the comfort zone isn't....we get so comfortable letting the extroverts run the world...but we resent them when they try to tell us how to live our lives...generalising I know
Being a "player" in life is just too far out of our comfort zone.
