Family guy is racist, sexist sensationalist nonsense prettied up as a comey show looking for shock value when all it does is demonstrate the 'my best friends are all black' warped viewpoints of its creators.

Yeah, Family guy isnt that politically correct and is stereotypical but I don't find it offensive for some reason.

One line in the show was " Oh these mountains look like nipples" (Refering to Mount Everest)
God: "Lets call the country Nepal, we can't call it Nipples"

My thought was that only Family Guy can get away with those lines, any other show and the show would probably be labelled negative by most.

it gets away with it because it is a cartoon. There is a "distance" that is created when no real humans are depicted as saying the contraversial things. I personally would love to see less censorship in television, but unfortunately we live in a society that is far too easily offended

True say ^

I don't think I would like a show with real actors to be that offensive though.

There is a difference between making a "racist" joke, and actually being a racist (same goes with sexism). The context and intention is important. Comedy is one of few art forms where I believe censorship should stay away. If your argument is that Family Guy play on racial and gender stereotypes to gain cheap laughs, then I can appreciate your point.

Just finished watching Stargate Universe, which I expected to be rubbish but I actually loved. Shame there were only two series... had a similar feel to BSG.

Going to start watching the new series of Supernatural and am also doing a re-run of the X-Files. Also watching Breaking Bad but am more than a series behind and I keep seeing damn spoilers for it grrrr.

The Mill. It looks promising but the shaky camerawork is annoying.

Started watching the American version of The Office. Its not as good as the UK version, but if you stop comparing it to the UK version, I think its a good comedy in its own right. Currently watching the second series (or should I say season lol). I've heard the quality declines in later series though.

I've sometimes found it annoying how some of my favourite sitcoms have hardly any episodes, but its probably a good thing as there hasn't been a chance for quality to decline. I.e. The Young Ones, Fawlty Towers, and The UK version of The Office.

Also watched Paul O'Grady's Working Class Britain. Found it very interesting, and I always find Paul a very likeable person.

Watching Cheers!

On the topic of sitcoms: what's the best way to get into Seinfeld (e.g. which season is the best)? Only seen a couple of season 8 eps before, and I thought they were pretty awesome. I assume it's 99% episodic, so there's nothing to worry about watching it out-of-order?

^Yeah it's almost purely episodic. I'd start with season three. Season one is a bit different in tone to all the others: it looks very amateurish, some of the characters are quite different to what they would later become ie George Costanza is played exactly like Woody Allen in that first season, and Kramer is just not Kramer. It doesn't hold up well to the other seasons, but there's only about six episodes in that season anyway. Season two they are starting to get into the swing of things, but three is a more solid place to start. Three is where it's at.
You can go back and watch one and two when you're done with the other nine million episodes.

Thanks :

Sky only have S7/8 on-demand right now (unless I'm looking in the wrong place), so I guess I'll have to find it elsewhere

Watched the first episode of the second series of Top Boy last night (sort of British version of The Wire) - looks like it is going to be even better than the first series.

Yeah I watched it last night too, was better than I thought it would be. The first season was meh, but the second season you can straight away see they've stepped it up.

Im watching Paul o grady's working britain and apparently there use to be a stronger sense of community around the UK. Whole towns in North England apparently use to go holiday resorts together. Although community seems nice I guess the cost of a tight knit society is less individualism. I like how liberal and individualistic this society is.

^there was a strong sense of community in the North until someone took it away...

I've been watching Poaching Wars with Tom Hardy. Felt all depressed as I thought we'd sorted out both rhinos and elephants. He tried not to judge the people who were doing the poaching, but you could see he was struggling not to say something.

Someone had as their avatar:'I'm all tired and depressed and don't feel like doing anything. Except Tom Hardy. I'd do Tom Hardy'.

With you there. I found it funny that he was heavily built and tattooed but sounded like James Blunt.
