Re: Collection of SA/self-help book recommendation threads and links to free CBT
What about the social anxiety workbook, is it a practical guide to creating your own recovery program as I hope?
Thanks |

Re: Collection of SA/self-help book recommendation threads and links to free CBT
Last week I found this book in the library: "Weekend Confidence Coach" by Lynda Field. It's a really helpful and uplifting book.
Inside are many exercises you can do to overcome anxiety and negative thoughts, and how to find your inner strengths and how to feel better. This isn't like othe self-help manuals because this book is quite mystical and tells you to think about all the things you love and how to recognise your inner self. There's something in the book that inspired me. The book was designed for women. |

AWESOME Superfred thanks... You did not list my favorite CBT one that I recommended earlier in the thread called Been There, Done THat? Do THIS! by Sam Obitz. Short and simple like a for dummies book but written from a sufferers POV. The TEA forms in it have helped me immensely and continue to help me.
Thanks again! |

Thanks for making that list, Superfred. Very useful.
Have ordered Overcoming Social Anxiety & Shyness by Gillian Butler, due to the various positive recommendations in this thread. |

Re: Collection of SA/self-help book recommendation threads and links to free CBT
Superfred,
Thanks for adding my suggestion to the list (Been There, Done That? Do THIS! by Sam Obitz) but I just noticed the link for it at amazon on your post and they charge an outrageous price for such a small book (over $900 new and almost $400 for a used copy). It is a great book but not at that price imo. You can get it directly from the books website (www.tao3.com) depending where you live for between $16 and $20.00 I often recommend it to people here and I don't want anyone to pay that much for it on account of my recommendation as that is highway robbery and I would feel horribly if that were to happen. Thanks! |

Re: Collection of SA/self-help book recommendation threads and links to free CBT
I've also got this one: http://img.amazon.ca/images/I/519GNP...500_AA300_.jpg
They're both good, but I'm not great at sticking with them, I'd better go back to them and try out some of the advice again. Richard Swinson is my uncle, I wonder if someone else in my family had social anxiety if he ended up specialising in that, I wonder if his daughter did because my dad said when he went over to see them she was really shy and he didn't see much of her. |

Re: Collection of SA/self-help book recommendation threads and links to free CBT
I've started "Embracing Your Inner Critic" by Hal & Sidra Stone which is good I think. It's very clear and has exercises in it too. Not just about SA but still relevant to self-esteem issues etc...

I don't know if this has been mentioned before but the CCI website (Centre for Clinical Interventions) is excellent and has a good range of self help workbooks using a CBT approach

Re: Collection of SA/self-help book recommendation threads and links to free CBT
There are some very good brief self-help leaflets available online from Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Trust. They are brief, not full self-help courses, but I think its a useful resource, as there are guides to quite a few related issues, such as depression, anxiety, OCD, and sleeping problems, as well as SA.

Collection of SA/self-help book recommendation threads and links to free CBT
I have started listening to an audio book via Audible called Quiet by Susan Cain which talks about the different brain chemistry of introverts and extroverts and claims to give introverts some tools to "better understand themselves and take full advantage of their strengths"

This book gets one of the best Amazon UK reviews I have seen:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Overcome-So...gateway&sr=8-1 I'm reading it right now. It takes an approach to the background behind SA that I have not yet seen anywhere else. __________________ |
