It's a beautiful day outside. I feel like going for a walk, maybe down to the garden centre to buy some plants. I won't though, as avoidance is easiest.

^ GO! Just do it!

I went out in the garden yesterday for the first time in months and cut back some bushes. Just breathing in the fresh air after hiding away for so long did me the world of good.

I'm now thinking about taking a trip to the Garden centre to buy some colourful pansies to put in some pots.

You must be dealing with a lot of data. You got some kind of Cambridge Analytica-style side hustle going?

Well, doing a Masters is usually beloved before starting a Phd (I think that's what you mean by big p? unless you just really, really need a wee.)

I ****ing hate SPSSS. Can't even talk about it.
Yeah, I'm very lucky that there's a masters loan available and that I have a fair amount in savings - it should mean I'll be able to do it quite comfortably. I'll look to work a few days a week too.

SPSS gets a bad rap. Yes the user interface is shit and data input cumbersome and unintuitive, but have you seen the statistical shit show that doing some of the more advanced analyses by hand would be? SPSS lets you do it a few clicks.

It'll be dead in a few years anyway - something called R is superseding it. It's more flexible but not really that much more intuitive (unless you're comfortable with coding). I hope you and your Facebook group are happy.

I was wondering what SPSS was so I looked it up.

Is the answer I got true though?

I don't even know

I'm doing a Speech & Language Masters but most of this second year is research methods (presumably to help us with next year's dissertation). I'm mostly loading databases with a couple of hundred participants data

^ A couple of hundred? Girl, you gonna have you some statistical powwwa. I'm going to need to get 200ish participants for a project I'm doing soon - I'm not sure how that's going to go.

How are you finding the course? And have you settled on a dissertation topic?

^^ If it doesn't sound especially interesting, yes.

I'm half-way through now, completed about 18 months worth. It was easier last year when I was teaching part-time and could study in the afternoons. I had to take a full time job towards the end of last year (which is ending next month ) so juggling work and studies at the minute is pretty stressful. I am enjoying it though, getting good grades and I love learning new things.

I haven't really thought about the dissertation at all, I have no idea what I'd like to research.

You're studying at the moment aren't you?

That's gone so quick! I remember talking to you about it a little before you started and it really doesn't seem that long ago. Would the course be a bit longer than a year to do full-time then? Or is the part-time spread across spread across 3 years instead of two?

Glad to hear you're enjoying it and doing well. Working full-time and studying part-time is a struggle. I'm doing the final module of my undergrad degree this year and it's not so much the amount to do that I struggle with, but having the same level of energy and drive to do it after a full day at work. I'm looking forward to being able to concentrate on it fully next year 'opefully.

I really struggled to settle on a topic for the project I'm doing at the moment and still don't really know if I'm happy with it. Sometimes I'm like, 'this is interesting.' Other times, 'this is bullshit.'

I'm really not sure. I don't think the University offer the course full-time where you attend in person. Some of the modules are also found in other courses though so whilst I listen to recorded lectures online there are other students who attend the lectures but they're doing a different course overall, if that makes sense

I sympathise. Once I get in from work I sit down for 2ish hours reading textbooks and research articles online and making notes.

I hope your project goes well!

I think I'm with you!

You sound a lot more disciplined than me. We're meant to do 18-20 hours a week. They get 12 at best from me (except on essay writing weeks when they do probably get that).

Cheers! Hope you don't have too much trouble settling on a topic for your dissertation.

Why apps take so long to download from the App Store. Why do people put up with this? I feel sorry for Apple people.

I thought that too.

Yeah. :/. She went missing for 3 weeks (before coming to us) so I guess the daddy was a wandering Tom.
