Hancock

Basically Will Smith plays an alcoholic, bad boy, superhero. Starts off well and Will Smith is, as always, excellent. Generally a nice, funny, film to watch.

Bringing Down The House

Steve Martin and Queen Latifah. Steve Martin plays a uptight middle class lawyer who meets Queen Latifah through a chatroom. She plays an innocent ex con who tries to get Martin to clear her name.

Not a bad film, has some mildly amusing moments. Queen Latifah is very good. Might be worth watching if you have an hour and fourty minutes to kill.

Because I feel the need to keep up with the Marvel cinematic universe for some reason, I watched Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, and then Ant-Man and the Wa- OH MY GOD THE TITLES OF THESE THINGS

Anyway, they were alright. Enjoyable enough, in a 'I won't remember a thing about them by the time I consume the next MCU product' sort of way. Tasty but eminently unfilling. The Kellogg's variety pack of films.

Diana

About the last 2 years of Diana's life and her relationship with the heart surgeon Hasnat Khan. Naomi Watts is excellent as Diana. Pleasent movie, one can see just how intrusive the paparazzi were.

Lakeview Terrace

Excellent movie. Basically a young married couple move into the neighborhood. Samuel L Jackson plays a cop, living next door, who doesn't approve of them for being an interacial couple (the man is white, the girl is mixed race).
Jackson's disapproval starts off creepy and gets more intense as the film plays out. As always Jackson is outstanding at playing a corrupt, manipulative, right wing, racist cop. There are some strong racial undertones to this film. I won't spoil it but it comes to an explosive climax.

Strongly recommend.

End of Watch

An outstanding film, one that's going in the keep bag. I've seen it before but not for years.

It follows two LAPD cops as they go about their day to day work lives in gangland LA. After they make a series of high profile arrests a Mexican drug cartel puts a hit out on them.

Violent, bloody and brutally realistic. This is one film you won't forget. The gorgeous America Ferreira is in it as a secondary character. It's a breath of fresh air to see her playing a bad ass cop.

I cannot recommend this film enough, it's that good.

^ great film.

If you havenae seen Brothers, starring our Jake and Tobias Maguire, you need to get your chops round it P-man. A remake of a Danish film, but, unusually for the Yanks (who are often too thick to cope with subtitles, and so just remake stuff) the American version in this instance, is superior imho.

Wall of Silence

Another outstanding TV film, also going in the keep bag.

Came out in 2004. It's about the 97 murder of Jamie Robe, a 17 year old teenager who was beaten up by a gang of yobs, so badly they cracked his skull and split his liver in two (among other injuries).

James Nesbitt plays his father and the focus is on the fight to bring his killers to justice, all the while facing a wall of Silence from the local community, too scared to speak out about what they saw for fear of repercussions.

I grew up in a similar area and had more than my share of abuse so can resonate with this film.

Can strongly recommend.

Old.

I found a way to bypass the Neflix password share bs - instead of using the Netflix button on my remote i went through via the tv's home screen and clicking on a thumbnail of a show i had previously been watching (on Netflix) and it took me through as normal. Weird. Anyway, this film is terrible. Absolutely shocking.

I'm not sure why M. Night Shyamalans films get worse rather than better, lol. He's career trajectry seems to be running backwards.

Haha, it's certainly not improving! I think i'm near the end. It does make me laugh, the situation, where they're on a small beach, anything that happens and there's always a few that break away from the group for no reason whatsoever to process things... ? Because of course they can't just do it nearby other people, they have to wander off 80 yards away to shake their head in disbelief, which of course facilitates some other situation. Lol, i hate that sort of thing in film - i know it has a function but it's so annoying

Yep, Old is a load of crap

In the Earth - this is another film directed by Ben Wheatley, about a soil scientist who travels into a forest with a park ranger, and who meets former colleagues who believe they can commune with the woods. It's a cool film by quite an interesting director. It's also refreshing how bonkers whole stretches of this are! 8/10

Beau is Afraid

It's a relentless, surreal, darkly hilarious un-odyssey that's bloated, confusing and probably one of the most enjoyable films I've seen this year. It isn't the masterpiece it probably thinks it is and the ending was a little on the nose but wow, I didn't want to blink watching it.

I enjoyed it even more than Midsommar and I'm pretty sure I gave that an 8.5. So it's going to have to be a 9.

Edit: Midsommar got a 9. So 9.2. What an Ari Asskisser

The whale - totally depressing all the people had a chance to help him but instead kept bringing him food. Felt like it was Americans justifying that it's OK to give up and eat your own body weight in pizza. 6/10

After a couple of people said it wasn't good I thought I'd give it a go.

The basic premise is that a group of people go to a secluded beach only to find they age rapidly there, living out their lives in a day.

Not a good movie, I concur. The acting was not good, the camera angles were often annoying and some scenes were absurd. The last 20 minutes or so were quite interesting but in all I don't recommend this film.

M Night Shyamalan isn't doing too good on films in recent years. I liked The Village and Sixth Sense, Unbreakable and Signs weren't bad. His recent film just haven't been much good.

This is how it seems to work in real life with those housebound from it though - nurses, family members and friends will often allow a person's situation to continue by doing that. The film didn't feel like it glorified or justified his lifestyle, it just explored the trauma that led to it and showed it as being very sad.

I thought it was a bad film (I gave it 3/10) mostly because it was very, very boring and it was directed like one of those ITV dramas aimed at old people. I can't believe the same director's previous film was Mother!, such a weird and disappointing choice for a follow-up.

My concentration for watching or reading fiction is way down though.

G.I. Jane

An outstanding film, one for the keep bag.

Demi Moore plays a Naval officer who goes through Navy Seal training, during which she has to face prejudice and adversity.

Such a wonderfully made film, Ridley Scott at his best. Demi Moore plays the female recruit beautifully and Viggo Mortensen is brilliant as the slightly unhinged Master Chief.

I don't know how accurate this film is, although I've read and seen some stuff on the Navy Seals, if it's any indication of the realities of the training I have to take my hat off to anyone who makes through Seal training.

If you haven't already watch.
