BBC weather says it's going to be 36 degrees on Monday, and 37 on Tuesday You know what that means?

I am dreading it a bit. Not only am I bad at dealing with it, but we've also a new born in the house. What do you do with them when it's like that? I don't think she's into Calippos yet.

I just want to hide away in a cave until its cooler.

God, a red warning. First time ever, apparently. Even in 2003 it was only ever an amber warning. There is a chance central London, and possibly even places like Birmingham, Manchester and Leeds could hit 40 degrees. We’ve never hit 38 before, let alone 40.

^ Apparently the temperature hit 37 in the long hot summer of 1976 (I wasn't around to experience that).

I'm supposed to visit my mum (a couple of hours' drive away) on Sunday and I'm a bit concerned about the heat, especially with my need to be fully covered up. Really hoping the forecast doesn't creep any higher than the low-30s.

At least Monday and Tuesday I can sit by the fridge in my pants.

It's 2-3 days of very hot weather. The heatwave of '76 was a really long period (most of the Summer) of above average temperatures.

Let's not get carried away. It's gonna be stiflingly ugly for a very, very short time.

Summer of '76 best school holidays I ever had.

The Monday before it started in the June we had 6" snow. By the Thursday the temp was rising and the heatwave started.

We never had stand pipes up here. They are talking about a water shortage in the south, hosepipe bans etc. Our 2 main reservoirs up here have enough water for the next 2 years even if it never rained again, so we are OK. Kielder Reservoir might have been a white elephant for a few years after it was built, but now it means that the north-east and Teesside have copious amounts of water. A few years ago they had to repair the stones at the top of the dam, so they had to release extra water for 3 months to drop the level by 10', they drained as much water from it for the repairs to take place than some smaller reservoirs hold!

You're right, I should have remembered that it's called "the long hot summer," for a reason.

There is a COBRA meeting today.

Really hoping they'll say people should work from home. I'll have to drizzle olive oil on myself and serve myself with roast potatoes, otherwise!
