Default ZX Spectrum or Commodore 64?

Rubber keys all the way for me..

My son (12) would play Fortnite on xbox all day if he could. I've not had consoles etc in years, however my route was

Spectrum 48K -> Amiga A500 -> Amiga A600 -> Sega Saturn -> Sony Playstation 2

What's yours?

I never had a Spectrum. I don't think I ever even saw one as a kid. They were like Sega Saturns, they just didn't seem to exist in my neck of the woods.

I started with an Amstrad CPC 464, then moved onto Commodore 64, then Amiga 500. Console wise I've had most of them at one point or another, apart from the Saturn, and obscurer ones like Neo Geo and TurboGrafx-16.

I had a spectrum 48k+, then a Amiga A500, then A1200 then a PC, I was never big on games. Even had a disk drive and printer for my spectrum at one time

I have a Dreamcast and an Elektronika BK-0010 lying around I've never got working too.

We used to get a wheelbarrow full of tapes from a car boot sale, they'd take four hours each to load, I'd pass the time by having an epileptic fit at the flashing colours, the only one that would work would be a football sim with Jimmy Hill on the cover, then dad would bury me up to my neck in the front garden and lob the cases at my face for making him waste a fiver. If I was lucky.

I got an Amiga 500 when I was 4/5 and that was the start of my slippery slope

I Think it went Amiga 500 > Megadrive (somewhere round here I was bought an original gameboy too - hello Tetris) ..Then I practically lived at a friends house because he had a playstation, I followed a year later getting the opposite consoles so we had both sets covered so I went Saturn > Dreamcast (with probably a playstation 2 in here somewhere) and since the Wii I've had pretty much everything

Spectrum, fond memories of playing Manic Miner and Attic Attack, used to try and program it myself using Hisoft Devpac (a Z80 Assembler).

C64 for me. I had loads of games, but not many good ones. I used to mostly play Midnight Resistance, Salamander and Turrican II.

The C64 was where I first learned programming. If I remember correctly it came with a book teaching you BASIC...

When I were a lad you either went the C64/amiga route or the speccy/ST route.

prinztronic tournament 10(dixons own pong)
atari 2600 woody
zx81
acorn electron
oric 1
oric atmos (best computer ever made)
ZX spectrum
+2
+3
Atari XE
Atari ST (several)
SNES
Gameboy
PS1
DS lite
PS2
PS3
Various PCs and macs.

Do we count the raspberry pi ?

Disturbingly I still have almost all of these !!! A computer is for life not just for christmas. Even more disturbingly apart from on the woody, snes and obviously the pong clone I hardly ever used any of them for gaming.

I am somewhat surprised how long this list is now that I see it all written down. I should probably sell some of them.

Flumpsy that***8217;s a pretty inpressive collection you have there. Intellivision is one that looks to be missing? I used to leave the Argos catalogue open at that page at Christmas.. nothing ever came of that trick though!

I should gather them all together for a group photo LMAO
Nah, I never had an intellivision, we were still happy on our 2600 when that came out. Our old telly had screen burn from cosmic ark !

Its funny how both me and my brother turned out to be programmers.

Enjoyed both of those. Hisoft Devpac? I saw it in a local shop and was impressed at the size of the manual it came with, however I’d have only been about 11-12 so wouldn’t have been ready to dabble in that. The pages in Crash magazine would’ve been my limit

hey this is getting me nostalgic now... maybe I should spin up Elite and try to increase my level ;-) Think I made it to Deadly which was one down from Elite.
Strangely I remember loads of games on the spectrum but not many on the amigas which is strange coz I had two of those

Manic Miner gave me nightmares (hey, I was five) That little guy trapped in that world, getting squished all the time

The Curse of Sherwood stuck with me the most, and the one time I got Spy Hunter to load

We had 99% copied games so it'd never load. Had a bin liner full of them actually, only a handful worked
