No Surrender - 7/10

Black comedy from Boys from the Blackstuff and GBH writer Alan Bleasdale. Not quite as good as his two TV masterpieces but still decent nonetheless. Most notable for an outstanding performance from the late, great Ray McAnally and a cameo from none other than Elvis Costello.

Berberian Sound Studio - 7/10. Great performance from Toby Jones but a v slow going film. Probably would have been better if I had the subtitle track because some of it was in Italian, doh.

I really enjoyed it. I had the same problem with the subtitles. I first grabbed a 1.5GB (roughly) size version and couldn't get the subtitles to work in any media player. I then grabbed the 4.37 GB version and found that the subtitles worked but only in the (free) VLC media player. (You really need the subtitles)

The Inbetweeners 6/10 - Disappointed. Had highish hopes for this as I'm a fan of the series and lots of people said it compared well. But sad to say it seemed to suffer the usual fate of TV comedy to movie adaptions - a weak drawn out story that ran short of ideas. Borat is the only one I can think of that was just as good.

Awake - 7/10. I am really squeamish so I couldn't watch some of it. Especially as I have a heart condition and it was about a guy having a heart transplant.

I liked the idea for the film though - as usual I think there were bits that were unlikely. But it was a good concept. Incase anyone doesn't know, it's a film about a guy who wakes up on the operating table during a heart operation.

Tomorrow Never Dies 8/10.

I do rather like James Bond films. The trick is not to take them too seriously. I possibly think the Brosnan films are the best, as they don't have so much cringy sexism, but at the same time they are good fun. I thought this one was great, and as soon as the bad guy Elliot Carver appeared, I immidiatly thought 'Rupert Murdoch'. It was good to pretend it was him when he came to his gruesome end.

Also, look out for 2 seconds of Hugh Bonneville.

Got 'Requiem For A Dream' out of the collection..... Really dark hard hitting film about peoples dreams shattered by different sorts of addictions. No happy endings in this one but brilliant performances and great visual style by the director.

9/10

Hoffman with Peter Sellers in a straight role 10/10, just so wonderfully acted by the leads, and shows how people who do things a bit differently aren't always the straightforward monsters they seem to be. You might not believe the ending but it was a pleasure to watch them getting there. Sellers' character doesn't have SA but something not that far removed from it I thought.

The Hobbit 4/10, a tedious travesty at times and some of the effects/fights were just silly. The Gollum and Bilbo scenes were excellent but too short. I'm now waiting for the youtube recut of the trilogy into something watchable. Jackson has undone all of his earlier good work.

Total Recall (2012) - 4/10 - Why bother?
Rec 3 Genesis - 2/10 - I couldn't believe what I was watching, a f*cking cheap horror comedy? Such a big let down being a big fan of Rec.

The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo trilogy.

I've watched the first two so far, and I might be persuaded to prepare some munchies, booze and a nice warm fire then sit and watch the third one very soon too.

9/10 so far.
