We had to have knee length skirts, didn't matter if you had growth spurt they had to be knee length.
We also had a felt hat and gaberdine mac

And think back to when i went to school ,it was long skirts or trousers only.

It was ever thus, I went to a mini fascist state school where girls skirts had to be no longer than knee length, detentions were handed out if any girl dared to wear trousers or a long skirt. Boys were restricted to trousers, and they were expected to keep their hair short. I remember when a muslim girl came to the school and nearly caused a riot because the school was told it must respect her choice of clothing. Even attending school with a jumper that was slightly the wrong shade of maroon raised the hackles of the headmaster..
