Oh man, this thread is too real for me. x_x
Anyone else here as weird as I am when it comes to watching abandoned shopping mall videos? The feeling of it is so surreal. To me it's depressing, but somehow still fascinating. I think to our generation these videos give us an extra sad feeling of nostalgia. Like, you remember in the 80s,90s, and early 2000s that these places were bustling and full of people. It reminds you of when you were a kid feeling hopeful and excited for the future. Now it just fills you with sadness to see how things have become. Almost poetic? Abandoned much like the dreams of milennials. Lol. Sorry, I think this thread is meant to be more quirky. XD But I've been watching some lately and it's such a bizarre feeling! I wonder how younger gens look at them. They've only seen empty malls as the norm, so perhaps it's not as sad for them? |

Think I read somewhere that Raymond Briggs isn't actually much of a fan of Xmas - something to do with losing a close family member around that time, or something. I've also just learnt from Wikipedia he lives within several miles of me! |

Oh heck yeah, I love urbex videos so much. :D Maybe someday I will even get into it myself. I've been watching ones based in the UK too. Really interesting stuff.
I recommend the abandoned mall vids if you enjoy urbex! At least the ones in America. There are some even running with electricity. It gives a really surreal vibe: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qDLANSoAdjM Here's one that hits close to home for me. The biggest mall in Portland is about to go. Not totally dead yet, but pretty sure it's gonna be dead soon. We all saw it coming, but it's sad to see. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jh_hNajDsOk "This place was the place back in the 90's I still remember the radio and tv commercials, " biggest mall in Oregon". It's so crazy to see it in the state it is now. It just makes me sad. Portland is nothing like it was when I was a kid and this is just another nail in the coffin of the Old True Portland." Me and my fiance were watching this video during his visit and he was so sad to see it become like this. He's been to the Lloyd Center before when it was more active. As "active" as post-recession can be at least. Last I heard the skating rink was taken down? It is such a huge mall though. It's crazy. |

50p per gallon, cigarettes 50p for 20 and beer 50p per pint. Although a "cheap" flight to Spain was around £200 return then, so swings and roundabouts!

When it comes to fuel, I remember it was in the mid 40p per litre margin when I was a child (I've been very much into motoring my whole life). I distinctly remember £5 was roughly a quarter of a tank my dad's company Ford Escort when I started taking notice. I also remember him and my mother complaining when it started to cost £25 to fill from empty.
To this day, I still don't consider anything over £1 per litre to be 'cheap'. |
