^ You needed real help and support
![]() I lasted 5 days at university, didn't even start the course! Stayed in my room filled with anxiety, didn't go to the cafeteria etc. Realised I wouldn't be able to cope so dropped out and went back home before I used any money from student loans. If I drank at the time I probably used that to cope (as lots of new students do) but I didn't, so that's the only reason I don't have any embarrassing drunken stories. |

^ The education department needs to hear stories like these. Even if they are more aware I feel more can be done about mental illness and school. There is also a popular argument that school isn’t a mental hospital or home. That’s true but perhaps better intervention would lead to happier students that learn more and better.

^ Yes, there's been a lot of talk for a few years about mental health and students but I'm not sure that the resources have actually been put in place. But also living away at uni isn't the right thing for everyone, people shouldn't feel like a failure if they choose a different route or they try it and find it's not the right thing for them.

Yikes NLH, that sounds really bad. You really needed some help back then, although whether it would have been helpful help, I don't know. I think a lot of people have mental health issues at that age. I got told lots of students did. At least you got your degree, I did better on the social and emotional front (although I could have done things a bit differently which I still feel in two minds about) but sadly not the degree. I got booted (they were bastards about it looking back) and that really marked the beginning of the slow downward spiral.

Tesco have diddled me and charged me an extra month on my phone contract even though I've moved over to O2 again
I'm stuck in a mental battle with myself, being incredibly tight and wanting my £11 back..and being too SA to ring up and have a go at someone. SA will win today...tomorrow is a new day |

How predictable my brain is. Just been out to meet some family for a coffee, and the moment I'm back in and by myself, my mind's like 'Have they gone? Right. I shall now describe all the ways you acted like a tit and should feel like a tit. Chapter 1...'

You know what, brain? Maybe you're the tit. Tit-brain.

Sugary foods feel like a drug to me, like it takes more and more to satisfy me now and I can eat well over 2000 calories in one sitting. I've tried moderation but the cravings just get stronger and stronger. Its weird.

^ Sugar really is like a drug. You might want to try eating more sources of protein, it makes you feel more satisfied and contains more nutrients than sugary foods. Also look into compulsive eating or binge eating disorder and see if either of those resonate with you.

^^ Try the 20 minute trick.
It takes 20 minutes for leptin (the satiety hormone) to flood your system. Eat half your plate, wait 20 minutes, try to eat the other half. You'll struggle, or you won't be able to finish. It genuinely works. Over time, it conditions you to correct portion control. The advantage being you're never craving or feeling unsatisfied after a meal. https://www.health.harvard.edu/blog/...er-20101019605 |

Has anyone else downloaded the NHS virus tracking app and been having problems with it?
On Tuesday morning I got a notification on my phone saying I've been in close contact with someone who has reported symptoms, then I had three notifications yesterday saying I've been in close contact with someone who has report having the virus, and another this morning saying the same thing. When I click the notifications they open the app where it doesn't say anything at all about it. I read one article that says these are probably bugs and that if there was any instruction to isolate or get tested then it would say in the app, which mine doesn't. It's annoying that they keep popping up though. Nobody I've been in close contact with in the last week has reported having symptoms or taken a test, and I haven't been on public transport or anything. I don't think it would pick up walking past people in a supermarket since it's only supposed to detect being 2m from someone for 15 minutes. |
