I don’t think people realise how influential country music has been down the years to musicians round the world. Here’s a version of Islands in the Stream as performed by Tomeu Penya and Adriana Ceballos in 1994, sung in Mallorcan a Catalan dialect spoken on the Balearic Islands.

Freedom Come All Ye makes a reference to Scotland the Brave....nae mair, nae mair! I wonder if the lyrics to FCAY are a bit too left of centre, but I guess in Scotland that’s a positive! Thumbs up to Flower of Scotland but Scotland The Brave just doesn’t cut it for me. The other alternative national anthem for me would be Scots Wha Hae.

^^ I think maybe because love and heartbreak are some of the most intense emotions we all feel. But in terms of folk there's always been songs about loss and work and struggle and beauty etc.

A bit of a stretch perhaps but...

Some fairly heavy, surprising hints of country in this, compared to the original.

^ Cool. I love more or less everything they do. I saw it suggested in one of the comments that Darwin, one of the Fossils, must have perfect pitch. The girls have brought songs by younger female Country artists to the table, if you wanted to check one or two out.

Soundtrack by Johnny Cash. 'Motorbike racing was the game.' Robert Redford at his physical peak, bare chested for half the film, and quirky Michael J Pollard grimaces and tics his way through. With a whiff of the counterculture.
