Default Social anxiety and ADHD

Apparently people with ADHD and more likely to have social anxiety disorder.

I apologise for the source, I've seen it stated elsewhere as well.

"It's entirely possible that anxiety disorders occur much more frequently in people with ADHD than they do in the general population. According to the National Comorbidity Survey Replication, 47% of adults with ADHD have an anxiety disorder—approximately 30% have SAD, specifically"

Might help someone who might experience them both.

*I should say more specifically knowing someone who has social anxiety, now been diagnosed with ADHD. Seems to be a susceptability with the two occasionally.

Interesting, I have both ADHD and social anxiety (although the SA is much improved). Can't say I'm surprised that anxiety is such a big problem for ADHD sufferers, given the nature of the condition.

"Still, others believe that ADHD symptoms, themselves, contribute to anxiety. Often, ADHD symptoms—such as inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity—put a person at greater risk for being teased, bullied, or otherwise socially rejected. Fearing further rejection, many withdraw into themselves, avoiding any social setting that they find threatening"

Which is exactly what happened to me. Bullying undoubtably caused my SA and my ADHD may have in some ways caused some of the bullying.

For some people, social anxiety, ADHD and (complex) PTSD overlap with one another rooted from nuances of childhood trauma, abandonment or neglect.

I highly recommend checking out Gabor Mate's book "Scattered Minds - The origins and healing of attention deficit disorder" - https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/1785042211

that's what I believe ADHD is a mini-trauma of the brain. The brain tries to work normally then happens upon this 'mini-trauma' from the past (or current), and then doesn't work right.
