Is it weird that whenever I read about someone's bio and found out the died in the 1990's or 1980's I kind of envy them?

I keep getting news alerts from the Daily Mail on my phone. I wouldn't mind except it's the Daily Mail.

It seems like everyone grew out of the habit of eating what they used to enjoy eating at 8 except me.

millions of years passed before i come into this world, and millions of years will come after i die, yet i'm alive in this very moment. this can't be a coincidence that my time is now.
even if my time is 90 years, mathematically it should not be possible. it's ****ing weird. how could this happen?

^ I sometimes think a similar way, how I'm alive in a time (and place) where I can, say, enjoy a particular song. How unlikely it is, but how meaningful it feels. But anyone at any time in history could think the same thing, 'How am I alive to experience these things at this exact point in time?' Something that feels too improbable to be coincidence is actually the most common experience of all humanity. It's a bit like the Douglas Adams quote about a puddle of water thinking the hole it's in must have been made for it because of how perfectly it fits. If the hole was shaped differently, or in a different place, or a different time, to the water it'd feel equally perfect, and therefore 'impossible' to be a coincidence.

If you roll a dice a million times, you'll end up totalling a very specific number. What were the chances of getting that exact number? Astronomically small, but you had to get some number, so why not that one? You had no more chance of getting any other.

Wait, not dice, I'm thinking of the odds when you shuffle a deck of cards. Each time you'll end up with them in an order that's virtually impossible to ever be replicated by anyone, ever (without cheating) but there's nothing special or preordained about it. If you didn't get one configuration of cards, you'd get another equally improbable one.

Yeah I don't know...I only fear I have always been there during all ages, and somehow will always be in a way or another.
Man, I just want a peaceful non-existence .. I don't want to experience nothing. No ego, no selfishness, no pain, no fear, no depression. Is that too much to ask for?

You might be able to achieve that if you become a monk.

Trample all over them because he's too lazy to pick them up.

You'll have to visit me Dougella, I know you live in Wilshire so there's no excuse.

Aw that's a shame, good you can rescue them. I originate from Wiltshire, but I may no longer be residing there But I would be glad to visit you if you invite me. Also I very much enjoy an organised dvd collection.

^ But if I don't go to a food festival, take photos as evidence, and post them on social media, how else are people I don't know going to think I'm living a fulfilling and diverse social life?

What?

You are very kind, Dougella. Anyway, It's not going to surprise me if I ended up with a similar lifestyle. But I doubt it's going to be effective because it will be as a result of being too desperate, not something I embrace by choice.

Type what you're thinking about right now

something that has ancient roots in the history of humanity, art history. A gesture of a woman hiding both her breasts with one of her hands/arms, and with the other hand hiding her vagina as a spontaneous response/reaction when someone accidentally sees her without no clothes on.

I wonder if living some updated version of the monk/nun life would be decent. One would have to do good works for the wider community, but I wonder if living in a working community would be a happier existence than not, if you don't fit into the family or couple thing. I think it's hard to have a workable arrangement in the modern world but it is the classic alternative for those who aren't adventurers. I think there's something in it but it probably needs to be woven into the fabric of society and it doesn't work that well with the economic system.

I'm still torturing myself with playing my cards differently in that mid to late 30s stretch.
