The Transit of Venus
^ an event which takes place just after 11pm tonight and offers a rare opportunity to see the planet passing across the face of the sun

Re: The Transit of Venus
Would of been kinda cool to see. Its quite amazing how small venus looks compared to the sun, and venus is a whole planet =P.

Re: The Transit of Venus
I saw this on the news, they were showing people around the world - Excitable school kids in Japan, cool young people in Norway, a smiley teacher who had taken her kids out of class for the day in France and a bunch of moody middle aged men in the UK.

Saw for a few minutes on stream yesterday (Or day b4 I forget) as wasnt ganna see it outside.
Even though it was cool to look at and such people in the stream seemed to be more excited than necessary. I actually used to have a hobby with such things too.. Though not anymore. |

Re: The Transit of Venus
^ that, can think of many more spectacular visual things and involving space too (suppose its not likely they'd see it again can be a factor). With that said I understand the importance and what the scientific/ astronomic communities can learn from events like this (being halfway in a physics degree helps that).
If I lived in a better place to see it (both time and weather) I probably would have done so but I doubt I would have been full of excitement, more like curiosity. |
