Can't stop the pop-ups!
They're not from online, as my various pop-up blockers would have stopped them, plus they pop-up anywhere - even here. I've tried Spyware Doctor, Ad-Aware, CounterSpy, my antivirus and deleted every process that HiJackThis was displaying, and also scanned my registry and deleted any errors/anything suspicious. So why, then, am I still receiving continuous and relentless fcking pop-ups?!
I'm on the edge here, people. |

Re: Can't stop the pop-ups!
try a different browser.
or try a program called security task manager. if there is some other process creating the popups, other than your browser, it'll show it when it runs. if you close that process and the pop ups disapear, you can qunarantine it, so it doesn't start again the next time you reboot. spybot search & destroy is a good program as well. |

Re: Can't stop the pop-ups!
If you've not tried it already and your Windows is up to date, click start, then run then type 'mrt' and hit enter.

Re: Can't stop the pop-ups!
I find if I connect direct to the cable modem using an ethernet lead I get loads of those messaging-type pop-ups on Firefox. But using a wifi router blocks them 100%. It's all black magic to me ...

Re: Can't stop the pop-ups!
This is a good (and free) online virus scanner:
http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ +1 on getting a router; that will stop any nasty stuff directly connecting to your computer. |

Re: Can't stop the pop-ups!
How long has it been happening and what sites have you visited recently. What new programs have you installed etc.
I highly doubt your a novice user as I have seen your past posts.. If you want I could pm you safe sites which will 'entertain' you. *winks* That provide much material for free and safely. I dont have much use for them since I got a girlfriend anyway. Im still half asleep and thought you meant poptarts for some reason.. highly disapointed to discover it was a discussion related to your bad habbits. It pops up now but next you go blind. |

Re: Can't stop the pop-ups!
I got to the root of this. It was a nasty little Trojan that others have had massive difficulty getting rid of. Any spyware/virus/adware removers are rendered useless with it. Every time I deleted the file it came back after startup, so I had to sort all my driver files by their 'date modified' to find the secondary file that renamed itself all the time which replenished the main Trojan file. And deleting it wasn't a simple task either, I had to kill its processes by using a separate programme before deleting them both. So yeah, managed to remove the bastard in the end.
Amazing how pop-ups can be the symptoms of something so sinister and annoying. |
