Hello you lovely people of the forum!
We would like to invite everyone to our new discord chat. If you fancy checking us out, please click on the invite link below. There are various channels for different subjects (general, anxiety, news, tv/films, video games, exercise, sports, food, etc). You don't need a phone number to join and, like a forum, you can catch up on conversations that have been going on while you were away. Discord can be accessed using a web browser if you're on a desktop with no downloads required or alternatively, you can download the app and chat using your phone. Either way, it's really user friendly - promise! We understand it can be a wee bit intimidating being the 'new kid on the block' so there's no pressure to join in with conversations if you don't want to but we'd love it if you did! Looking forward to seeing and chatting with you soon! Team Discord x Link: https://discord.com/invite/YmuDcvJ Be nice, play nice & make friends. |

Just thought I'd bump this (even though it's already at the top of the thread list) since the Discord group has been busier than ever lately and new members are trickling in.
We have a fun new quiz channel now where people can play against themselves or each other, 24 hours a day ![]() There's also a new poker channel for people who are into that kind of thing, a debate channel where topics are generated for discussion a few times a week, as well as all these equally exciting channels: ![]() We do remove full access for members who for whatever reason haven't spoken for a month - this is because some people feel uncomfortable with the idea of lurkers who might be reading everything but never contributing. However, we understand the reasons why people might not want to talk for a while, so everyone is welcome to rejoin at any point. If anyone here is interested in checking it out, just let us know in the introductions channel that you came via this thread and I or another moderator will give you full access as soon as we see you ![]() |

Just thought I'd bump this in case anyone is feeling lonely around the Christmas and New Year period and wants to chat to people in real time (in a text-based chat room format). There are often at least a couple of people online throughout the day, although evenings are generally much busier. The invite link is here: https://discord.gg/PVBRJZScxj (Requires registration if you've never used Discord before. You can use it in your usual browser or get an app for phone or tablet if you prefer.)

I find chatting to lots of people at once in real time a bit tricky, but this is interesting. Discord is testing forum like features in some of their chats, which might be of interest to the sauk discorders:
https://techcrunch.com/2022/02/04/di...ovfsh4Ygk-IUPr They’re testing it on the larger groups, so it will probably be a while before it rolls out as a feature for all chats. |

Yeah, some of the larger servers seem completely unmanageable and it's so difficult to keep up that there's no point even trying. I've seen some with thousands of people before, but luckily the SAUK Discord group is only around 25-30 regulars (and a few less regulars) so things don't move too fast. The forum features should be interesting, although in smaller groups it kind of feels like a forum anyway in that you can read messages posted at an earlier time and respond to those so it's possible for conversations to move slowly rather than having to talk in "real time" (although that happens too, of course). I think things would be improved by having proper "threads" - of which there's currently a feature like that, but it isn't very good.
Some of the moderation tools in that article sound good though! Setting up all the bots to do things for you can be quite tricky. |
