Operation tomorrow. Aargh. Don't know how I'm going to cope with a plaster cast for six weeks or longer. My main coping strategy is exercising lots, and won't be able to do a lot of what I do at the moment.

Day surgery. Having a bone graft and a screw to try and fic a fractured scaphoid (been broken since February). Was hoping to be able to do spinning but think the cast would get very grim! Not being able to drive is going to be hard.

Don't think I'm going to get much sleep tonight. Dreading having to sit and wait tomorrow, always feel very anxious in hospitals.

Just had a trip to the doctors tonight as when I got my last prescription of omeprazole I had a little note saying I need to book a review of my medication, took two weeks to get an appointment and it just went like this:

Doctor: So what can we do for you today?

Me: I had a note with my last prescription to say I needed a review.

Doctor: Okay then how is it going for you.

Me: Well it doesn't stop everything all the time, I still get oesophageal spasms...

Doctor: Spasms what are they?

Then I gave a quick explanation of what an oesophageal spasm is and the reply was..

Doctor: Well these reviews are generally just to see if you can lower your dose so I think we'll just keep you going as you are, anything else?

What a waste of time all that was, the only thing I got out of it was leaving work early, which is always good.

I think the NHS is very nearly finished

When it says something provides however much % of your RDA or fat/sugar/etc, is 100% the ideal amount you're supposed to have, or is it the maximum? Is it actually bad for you to only have 50% of your RDA of sugar?

I think the operation went okay. Surgeon said there was a bigger hole between the two bits of bone than he expected. Won't know if it's going to work or not for six weeks.

It took me ages to come round properly from the anaesthetic, only started feeling really awake in the last hour. They also used a nerve block so my left arm is completely dead. Very odd feeling. Sitting on hospital bed with my arm suspended.

Thank you Muggins. Parents evening wasn't so bad in the end. I have very little patience for annoying parents so parents meetings seem to annoy me more than they do most people but once I got started at least the anxiety went away.

I'm now terrified about a meeting I am going to tomorrow. Making a rather big career decision/taking a big risk and I'm scared.
