Just thought I would bump this for anyone who's interested since there have been a few people joining it recently.
If you've never used Discord before, it's pretty straightforward and only takes a second to register. There are various channels in the SAUK one for different subjects (general, anxiety, news, tv/films, video games, exercise, sports, food, etc). You don't need a phone number to join and, like a forum, you can catch up on conversations that have been going on while you were away. You can also appear "offline" if you're anxious about people seeing that you're online, and there's no pressure to join in with conversations if you don't want to. When you first join, you won't be able to see everything at first, but once you've said hello and let people know you're from the forum then you'll be given access ![]() |

^Thanks for explaining what goes on! I don't know, I've never joined in chat on here, but I am pretty bored, so I might. Hm.

You don't need an app for Discord on a computer either, it's browser-based

I think the best thing would be to try chat, Discord and (for those who don't mind handing over their telephone number) WhatsApp and see what works best for you as an individual. I haven't made much use of Discord yet, but I am using and enjoying all three. |

If Jen has had issues with the stuff in there it has never been communicated to me so please do enlighten me. The chat is meant to be a supportive environment. People are often in there until late on helping people who are having crises. I will reiterate whatever your opinion, the SAUK chat is the official chat, tied to the forum. Anyone who wants to try the Discord is welcome to, but just be aware that everything you say on there stays visible on there to others unless you delete it. On our chat, its gone within a matter of hours.

^ It's not my place to enlighten you, Far, but Jen's concerns have been posted on this forum, otherwise I wouldn't know about it. I wasn't meaning to be critical of you or anyone in chat, personally my only issue (as I mentioned above) is everyone being in a room I can't access effectively - you should know me well enough by now to know that if I had an issue, you would be the first to know.
Yes, it is worth mentioning that what is said on Discord and WhatsApp is a matter of record (although it is possible for the sender to delete WhatsApp posts retrospectively) whilst those on chat which were made prior to logging in are not visible - either of those situations might be seen as an advantage to some and a disadvantage to others. I'm aware that chat is the official chat, but surely anything which helps people is a good think - it doesn't have to be one v. another v. yet another - although, personally, I would prefer it if everyone were in one place rather than scattered across different formats. |

Hi I don't want to go as far as to state that the discord chat room doesn't allow or is not for people who are seeking support or advice on mental health issues. It has not been labelled as a support room because this has been assumed, and for me I didn't think to specify it as a support room because its built in for anybody that wants to discuss mental health.
So if somebody does want to chat about their personal issues in the discord that is absolutely fine, but at the same time the IRC room has been operating for years longer and may be a better place where you will find more advice and help. I and other chatters are open to chatting about health and support but this discord room that i've setup with others overtime has had a focus on entertainment channels e.g. films, programming, music, exercise, etc, and there is a health channel but there have been few people in need of active support to help them get better overtime. The forum is more the area for making threads on specific mental health issues I feel and also the IRC is probably better suited for lengthily discussion. At the same time the discord is welcome to all, and if you are member of these forums please mention your forum name when you join ![]() Because of the nature of chatrooms, people that talk and information shared.. There is the chance anybody online could be trying to gather information on somebody else. So the chatroom has been setup with a system now where if you are known by people, or chat and use the chatroom regularly then you will gain access to more of the channels. I hope this doesn't make people feel more excluded as it is a tricky balance between privacy and letting anybody who wants to chat into the channels. |
