Re: What book(s) are you reading at the moment?
I haven't read so much as a page in weeks but I'm currently a few chapters into A Malazan Book of the Fallen: Book 8, Toll The Hounds.
Good fantasy series, doesn't fall into the trap of overextending the plot like most fantasy writers tend to end up doing, since it ends at book 10. Still a bit of a difficult read, you'd need to be properly into it to put up with Steven Eriksons style. |

Re: What book(s) are you reading at the moment?
Enemy combatant.
I already knew the synopsis but came across it in a charity shop when I was volunteering there about 6 months ago - so I bought it. Just got around to reading it recently. About two thirds through. Its quite informative for issues I already mostly aware of (For example Mi5/6 are idiots>Actual intelligence. As is evident in this retelling and contrary to what we see on t.v) but the emotional/first hand retelling is quite surreal. I regret not reading it sooner and only getting my hands on it by pure chance rather than buying it properly. (Rather than at a discount at a charity shop lol.) |

I tend to lose concentration when anxiety kicks in....I have a few books on the go at any one time. So at the moment, I am reading Choices And Illusions (interesting book about how the mind works) The Highly Sensitive Child by Elaine Aron and Have A Little Faith by Mitch Albom.
Oh...and Gin O Clock by the Queen of Twitter for reading on the bog. |

Re: What book(s) are you reading at the moment?
The Weird Sisters, recommended by assistant in Waterstones, Oxford. A book, I find, that needs to be read in peace and quiet in big chunks. I think I'm enjoying it. Not having your education, I find the references to Shakespearn plays are lost on me, except the obvious ones. For instance, I didn't realize, until reading it, that the title referred to the witches in Macbeth.

Re: What book(s) are you reading at the moment?
Unravelling Capitalism by Joseph Choonara. It's basically a primer on Marxist theory, so not exactly a barrel of laughs, but much more accessible than most books on the subject. Just finished 23 Things They Don't Tell You About Capitalism by Ha-Joon Chang last week, which does a pretty good job of debunking some of the common free-market myths from a fairly moderate, centre-left perspective.
I've also been meaning to make a start on Debt: The First 5,000 Years by David Graeber, but its sheer size makes it look rather intimidating up there on the shelf. Some other time, maybe. |

Lauren - classic novels are usually free (those old enough to be out of copyright). Personally, I tend to find pre-20th century novels hard work, with the exception of Thomas Hardy. If you can find any of his offered for free, I'd recommend them.

Re: What book(s) are you reading at the moment?
Just started this:
It traces the gradual development of British representative governance from the Levellers in the mid-1600s right through to the eventual capitulation of New Labour at the turn of the millennium. Foot was a journalist rather than a historian, which actually helps here as his writing is more nimble and engaging than you find in some history books. The book is nearly 500 pages long, though, so it's probably not for the faint-hearted. |

I'm reading Human Traces by Sebastian Faulks. It's a novel, but it's teaching me a lot about the development of psychology. Good read.
