Default Fasting!

Has anyone done fasting? This is my new health goal/fad. I now just eat one time a day (23 hour fasting, 1 hour eating). It's going well and is quite easy actually. I did a three day fast about 2 weeks ago and my skin improved, it has gone spotty now again bt it was clear then.

I really want to have the health benefits and not lose weight. I will do a three day fast once a month so again in July, otherwise one meal a day every day. I am hoping to continue this for as long as possible! Of course if I slip up, or go to a restaurant or something I may break it but usually no.

My ex used to do this 5 and 2 thing where he used to eat light on 2 days of the week or not eat at all. He lost weight with it and found it really easy to do.

I think its good to eat a little less and skip a few meals as we were designed to be scavengers originally. How are you getting along with it? do you find it easy?

It's quite easy, because I eat one time per day and fast for 23 hours, so I am not really missing out just having it in a more condensed space. I'm doing it for the health benefis though, like improving my skin, autophagy, reduced insulin etc., weight loss is a side effect because I'm a little chubby not really huge. Everytime you eat your insulin rises which is the big problem for your body so I am trying to limit it rising to once per day. I've not eaten for two days now (I will eat a pizza + ice cream later) just to get some extrea benefits and cell renewal.

A reason it is easier is that you need to do less shpping and think about and prepare meals less. It gives you more free time to do other stuff, and also to re-direct your energy elsewhere. Honestly, the hunger is uncomfortable sometimes but most of the time it is okay ad gets better as your body gets used to it.

Yeah for some reason I've been getting a little acne recently.

But I am currently trying fasting.
I reckon if I fast 2 days a week for 6 weeks, I will drop a waist size.
But easier said than done, as it's a little bit unpleasant when your body is in fasting mode.

I suppose it depends whether it fits into your lifestlyle. Like if you work etc. We all get used to a habit I guess. I get scared of losing weight as I dropped so much with my illness and have always been skinny too!
Easier in Summer maybe!

Does forgetting to eat count?

The thing I would worry about with only having a one hour eating window is how you would get all the nutrition you need for one day, and if you eat a lot in one go that would be quite heavy on your stomach I think.

From what I've heard of people doing intermittent fasting they usually have a window of six or eight hours where they eat, which means they can have a number of meals over that time.

I managed to do a 4 day fast a few years ago. Although I made sure that I was at home that week. Which was a wise decision, as day 3 was a memorable day for me. Let's just say that the boffins at Persil HQ know what they're doing! Then when I got to day 4, I didn't feel hungry at all. In fact, I felt like I had a lot more energy that day. But I just wasn't comfortable enough to continue with the fast. I think I might have lost about 6lbs during that time. Mostly water weight I'm sure. As for the other health benefits, I didn't feel as sluggish as I did before. Although that soon changed after I went back to eating pot noodles.

Let us know how you are getting on British! Is it easier with the hot weather? I always find I have no real appetite on hot days like today!

Yeah 16:8 is the popular one as Dr Michael Mosley's popular book is based on. A lot of people do 20:4 but a few like me do 23:1. I can eat a lot in that time but definitely less than before I fasted and I can get in 10 fruits and veg in that hour. I only eat for one hour because I want my insulin to stay as low as possible and everytime you eat it rises. Mine rises just once per day which is what I'm aiming for.

My only experience of fasting was poverty-induced, so it may not be a fair trial. It seemed to send my stress hormones bonkers, so that's what puts me off. It didn't seem to have any positive effects, and the weight rebounded. The only positive thing was the mental clarity sometimes. I think it's worth doing periodically for that alone.

I did a fast on Tuesday, but then I ate 2 cheese slices. So I'm thinking I've just burnt some fat off and then gone and consumed some more.
