I've been watching episodes of The Cook Report on youtube. It's very proto-Brass Eye. Alternates between being unintentionally hilarious and grim.

There's something about the time period that I find quite comforting. The hair, the clothes, the interior decorating, the cars... everything's so bland, in a cosy way. When things seem crap these days, it's reassuring to be reminded that things have always been a bit crap, and you know what, that's OK.

The Cook Report. That brought back some memories.

I'm watching Big Boys on 4OD. Jack Rooke's autobiographical comedy about his time at Uni.

Covers sexual awakening, mental health, making new friends etc.

Watched four of six episodes so far and I'm loving it.

Preach, Merritt! Roger to me was like a cuddly terminator. Where he was politely relentless in accomplishing his mission.

I've been watching Fear City on Netflix. Not a chuckle!

It really is quite impressive to see him in action. One episode on the Triads they show a victim of an unprovoked machete attack, and not long after Cook's confronting a bunch of gangsters in the street at night, all 'You lads have been quite naughty, haven't you?' (paraphrased slightly)

They don't make broadcasters like that anymore! As for the triad episode. It's classic cook! He exuded confrontation and civility in equal measure!

"I've heard you chaps have been up to no good! Not cricket if you ask me! Now let me shove the microphone into your face and hope that you don't chop off my balls of politeness and plenty of steel " (also paraphrased slightly)

Anyway, I really need to switch to decaf!

It really set the standard to TV show intros. Fat bloke belting it up some stairs, a lit fag in an ashtray, what more could you ask for.

^ Be warned, there are some extremely grim episodes, but then there are episodes where Roger Cook dons a silly disguise, like he's competing with Beadle's About. It's an emotional rollercoaster!

It's excellent! Deals with some heavy stuff but with so much humour.

I've been looking forward to the new series for ages - starts Sunday!

Thanks for the heads up Appear.

Now onto Mr Bates v The Post office.

Watched two episodes and it has left me amazed and furious at the injustice.

^ I caught a moment of it because my sister watched it and it's very ITV drama (that's a diss). The 20 minutes I saw didn't feel like anything new or different or interesting.

well, you never can be too sure about who you're actually talking to online!

Oooh I want to see this (not because of the biscuits character ) I saw a trailer a while back and didn't realise it would be out so soon.

Loudermilk on Netflix.

Acid tongued former alcoholic turned counsellor. He is acerbic and blunt to everyone and I am really enjoying it. My Kind of humour.

After the Flood. I'm enjoying it (I do like a mystery drama) and really like the premise for this. Seems a bit slow paced so far, bit too much padding but I shall hold out hope that everything comes together. A lot of tv (especially itv) dramas seem too padded to me, mostly even the ones I like or even love could have been better if shorter and pacier.

Loudermilk seems like a bought off wish copy of afterlife Americans interpretation of dark humour. Rudeness without the humour. Tried 2 episodes so far possibly give it a bit more of a chance.

^ It reminds me a bit of the American film High Fidelity, where the main character owns a record store (which is based on a book by Nick Hornby). It does get a bit more interesting as it goes on and some of it is funny. It's not got to sort of twee-ness that Afterlife has anyway.

Carol and the End of the World

I'm not really sure what it's about or if I really enjoy watching it, but I keep watching it. It's quite sad but poignant. I don't think I've seen anything animated like it. It's either really good or not at all.

Poker Face.

Good first episode. Fine casting.
Exceedingly watchable!

Though Adrien Brody was doing a straight copy of Jimmy Goodfellas Conway

We watched through Marvel Echoes, which I felt was altruistic on my part since I had no interest it. It was pretty bad but watchable until episode 4 when two ultra-violent scenes near the start had me noping out, they were just too much. Even my partner hated it and he loves everything Marvel usually.

I'm watching through The Terror. After seeing Chernobyl again I decided I had a thing for Jared Harris and wanted more. He's great in this too. I think I love series set in cold places in general, gives that far away from home feeling.

I've been watching Glitch on Netflix. It was ok. It's the kind of show that you want to find out how it ends. Then you find out how it ends and you're like, ok, fair enough.

American Nightmare - definitely should not have watched this as any noise or shadow in the night now freaks me out.

I am also watching Reservation Dogs.

I've been watching Into The Night on Netflix. It's been good so far. It's another one of those shows where you want to see it to the end.

^^ Oooh... you're always hot on Netflix true crime. We've been after some to watch so will have to give it a go.

Did you watch The Staircase documentary? We're halfway through the dramatisation with Toni Collette and Colin Firth. Rather good.

True Detective S4 started well, but by the third episode I'm finding it a bit boring. The supernatural parts feel strange and like they don't really fit. Either there is a supernatural element to the world contained in the show, which would be stupid since it hasn't been that way before, or everything is the visualisation of hallucinations caused by events within the show, which is also stupid.
