Re: Does anxiety sometimes make you feel like less of an adult?

Anxiety I'm pretty sure has robbed me of a lot.

I had glimpses of an 'adult' life though as I didn't start suffering until around 21; also had the remnants of a social circle left after that....

Re: Do you ever feel a negative vibe from some people towards you?

TBH I think everyone does from time to time.

I would think most of the time it is not even about you. Someone having a bad day might give everyone bad vibes.

If we're talking groups then I...

Re: The dark side of SA

That's interesting. I tend to think of a lot of social interactions that I have had in the past that went badly and even though it is so long ago, the feeling of 'cringe' is still generated as well...

Re: How does anxiety form for you?

Indeed, it's just not well understood.

I had CBT last year but not far from the back of my mind was how ridiculous it all sounds when I was trying to describe things. Going out produced anxiety,...

Re: How does anxiety form for you?

I suffer from general anxiety.

Seems stupid but the only real comfortable times are at home; or maybe a place where you don't need to go anywhere.

Being out and about generates some kind of...

Re: The dark side of SA

Like most things in life, someone is only ever going to be changed if they want to be.

Could you give some specific examples of why you have been a particularly bad person? It sounds like you're...

Re: What are you scared of being revealed?

I think a common thing is that often the perception of ourselves is always much worse than the reality.

For instance I put off joining a sports-based meetup because I was scared I wasn't going to...

Re: What are you scared of being revealed?

I guess being revealed as a bit of a loner is quite irritating for me.

In some ways I quite like it and it makes life a lot simpler. It is also easy to pretend to others. People just assume. On...

Re: More Socialising = More Anxiety (post event)?

Ha, yes, I have that.

For instance I spoke to a neighbour yesterday (who I rarely speak to anyway).
I had no choice as I literally bumped into her.

Some small talk, which I am either poor at...

Re: Family estrangement

Yes for me, I'm guessing estranged is the wrong word.

I don't have much in common with my parents and in a younger life the pressure of living up to expectations really grated.

I don't think...

Re: Weighted Blankets

I've got one. Sometimes suffer from restless legs at night, and they all got good reviews.

Can't say it did much for me; neither do I agree much with the reviews. Many of them say it's like...

Re: Feeling constantly behind in life

Facebook's like that.
When you see people post shit you can almost sense the implicit boasting behind it. New house, new car, new baby, etc.
Don't think everyone is at it, but a few are. Some...

Re: Small things that make you smile

Nice story! I love that.
Maybe if the cat had a good time it'll return.

I had this when I was a kid, sometimes the same cat would drop by and play with for a bit. Then he would jump over the...

Wow, some really good answers here guys. Thank you for taking the time to respond.

I guess some of mine are
cats, hiking, lying in the sun, reading a good book, interesting conversations

I was...

What do you really, really enjoy doing?

A often used quote is 'do something that you really enjoy, and you'll never work a day in your life'.

I don't know if its just me being old but real enjoyment has dropped out of a lot of things,...

Re: If you've decided not to have kids, what's the main reason?

I agree.

No doubt that some people have chosen because they wanted to, but not only that they are entirely sure they have made the right choice and are happy with it.

Sometimes, I get the...

Re: Easier to talk to people you are paying?

I agree with this idea of the hierarchy.
And of course putting yourself closer to the bottom than to the top.

I think fear of judgement is pretty powerful and it preys on your weaknesses,...

Re: Do you really WANT friends and a social life?

I'm totally with you on that. Kids seem to be the ultimate way to join a 'club', going to an ante-natal class must be the adult version of going to university, everyone is in the same boat and wants...

Re: Has your life turned out better or worse than you expected?

I'm the other way around I think.

At a younger age, I thought mental health stuff and anxiety were things that happened to other people, no way could it happen to me.

At school I was also among...

Re: Do you really WANT friends and a social life?

You know the old saying, be the change that you want to see in the world.

TBH I agree with almost all of your post. I too get a feeling sometimes that I wouldn't want to be friends with myself but...

Re: Do you really WANT friends and a social life?

I agree. I think the main barrier for me is self-perception. I totally get the 'would I want to be friends with me?' thing, some days I would say yes, others no.

Added to this are lots of other...

Re: Social media is making me feel bad again...

TBH I used to be a sucker for social media when it came out. If you wanted to have social proofing by having your picture taking on big nights out, this isn't too difficult if that's what you really...

Re: Anyone Tried Melatonin?

Suffered from some bad insomnia last year, really bad.

Found that the herbal ones were pretty ineffective. The non-herbal stuff like Nytol worked for me at the start but then you get resistant to...

Re: Fitness for the new year

I've found the 1000 calories workouts quite helpful, if time consuming.

I should really face up to going outside and doing a run. It looks like the...
