Re: Decent hypnosis recording, beat social phobia

Started this for the first time last night, although I inadvertently left on the 'wake up' option in the app, which did its job, leaving me wide awake at 4:30am!

Will give it a good trial, and...

Re: Anyone else feel like their SA may have a physical cause?

Hi. My GP didn't mention anything by name, rather he vaguely suggested that my list of symptoms may have their root in an autoimmune disorder. After the bloods came back normal, he seemed to prefer...

Re: Food: How i cured my SA

Interesting post. Thanks. I've read about this before, but in relation to something else. Didn't make the SA connection previously.

I'm of the increasing opinion that my anxiety/depression has an...

Re: Depression/anxiety covering up health problems...

Yes, I plan to go back again once I've done some more research. It's been a while since my last blood test, so things may have changed.

Good luck with your treatment. Hope it goes well for you.

Re: Anyone else feel like their SA may have a physical cause?

I'll be interested to know how you get on with that. I've considered the possibility myself, but not sure how to proceed with it. I imagine that it hinges upon finding a dentist who is open to the...

Re: Depression/anxiety covering up health problems...

I just started a thread on a similar subject, before noticing yours.

I suspect I may have an underlying undiagnosed illness which is contributing to my anxiety problems. However, I have had...

Anyone else feel like their SA may have a physical cause?

I've long considered the possibility that my SA might be at least intensified by some sort of physical ailment. Perhaps a deficiency or an allergy. CBT and other psychological kinds of therapy have...

Re: When you speak... something happens so you can't be heard

I think this is spot on. I have a problem with speaking very quietly, which I originally didn't notice. I had become used to mentally regulating the loudness of my own voice to the point where it...

Re: Using a Telephone

On the very rare occasions that I do have to make a call, I find that doodling (writing or drawing) on a piece of paper seems to help distract the nervous part of my mind. Perhaps it's a way of...

Re: What do antidepressants feel like when they start working?

I have tried several SSRIs and can honestly say that I felt no benefit, only side-effects. But there are plenty of people who have been helped by them. People are affected by different things. I felt...

Re: Just a small “revelation” about being nervous in que lines

When queueing I developed a deep-breathing + zoning out technique, which helped me a lot, but I understand that it's much easier said than done. I just try to focus on my breathing, or fix my...

Re: Kalms / Valerian

Yes, I use them occasionally, usually when I have to go out anywhere. I find they have a mildly useful effect. For me personally, they're best taken about 20/30 minutes beforehand.

Re: Employment Support Allowance and Social Anxiety

The initial assessment phase lasts for 13 weeks, and you need medical certificates to cover this period. If the decision still hasn't been made after that time, your payments will be stopped until it...

Re: Beta blockers

That was the reason my GP wouldn't prescribe them to me, which was disappointing because I would have liked to have given them a go.

Re: Employment & Support Allowance

I'm another with a medical assessment in the next few weeks. It'll be interesting to see how we all get on.

Good luck!

Re: Is it worth applying for ESA?

This is true, but I do not feel able to contact such organisations - requiring personal or phone contact as they do. I was able to find the advice I required via 'other means.' :spy:

Re: Is it worth applying for ESA?

Thanks for the link to the 'Benefits and Work' site, AuroraSky. Very helpful!

I will give it a go. I understand that a medical note from my GP is required, so I'll probably wait until I am...

Is it worth applying for ESA?

I haven't worked for 12+ years. I was successfully receiving Income Support until a few years ago when I 'failed' a medical assessment. That entire episode caused so much stress that I decided to...

Re: Kalms - yay or nay?

I'd say just try them. I use them whenever I go out and they do seem to have a gently relaxing effect for me. It's very subtle. Don't expect miracles. They have never worked for me in any really...

Re: do you remember much?

It's good to know I'm not alone on this matter. I have the same problem. If one of those 'quoting from comedy/film' pub-style conversations (for want of a better word) crops up, I'm lost. I find that...
