Thinking I may go back to my Smartphone

Posted 4th March 2016 at 11:03 by Amara 94

It's been a few days since I swapped my smartphone for a dumb phone. The major advantages I notice are better sleep, better focus and better battery, my dumb phone is still at around 75% since the last time I charged it, Last Sunday. I enjoy the fact that I don't have a distraction next to me and can focus on watching TV,reading and doing some work at the library more than when I had a smartphone.

However not having a smartphone has lead to increased anxiety, this might be a temporary thing though, but it has lead to more anxiety because it felt like another thing that would make me not fit in compared to the majority of my peers. I have just started a work skills group and it seems common for my peers to go on there smartphones on breaks. Being super shy, not having the aid of a phone and not looking super social makes breaks extra awkward.

Then I just ordered a really cheap camera to maybe replace my smartphone, just got it now and the photo quality seems poorer than my phone, which didn't have good photo quality tbh. So it just seems simpler to go back to my smartphone, luckily I never sold my phone.

However I replaced my phone to try to improve my productivity and quality of life so I'm thinking if I go back to my smartphone I don't want it around me all the time, I don't want it to be a major distraction that it sometimes takes 1+ hours to get out of bed or go to bed, I want to be able to focus on stuff without feeling the urge to search every 10 minutes or so.

I'm thinking maybe I should make my smartphone be my workphone, only used for work purposes. It's super convenient, that has just stood out since I transferred my number to my dumb phone, however it can also be a really big distraction that it decreases productivity, I just notice my decresed effort in productive tasks since I have had increased access to the internet. I still use my laptop a lot, don't want to get rid of it because of being able to music produce with it and stuff but I want to use it more like a tool and less like a distraction.

When I have formed healthy habits of Internet use is when it feels it would be easier for me to be productive.
